Our AMAZING ANNUAL DANCE CHALLENGE again hits the Illawarra. This year we have some changes to the Moondance syllabus and have also added extra troupe events & continue to offer fantastic competition & prizes.

Staged over two full days (one if required) Moondance offers dancers the chance to compete in Jazz Solo, Duo & Trio elimination events and Jazz, Tap, Contemporary/Lyrical and Hip Hop Troupe events. The challenge is designed to offer a whole new level of competition, away from traditional eisteddfods. And in 2024 The SENIOR SOLO CHALLENGE returns! All the finalists in 14/u & 15/o solos are eligible to enter. Show us your best one minute of dance, any style, performed on the main stage. The winner collects $350 CASH!!

Three experienced adjudicators reside over the day's events, making for a fair & fun competition.

Jazz Solos, Duos or Trios are placed into heats, where upon adjudicators re-call selected competitors to the next round (This is achieved by a competitors number being recorded by a majority of adjudicators - 2 out of 3). Final placings, 1st through to 6th, are determined using the Skating System of Scrutineering. Adjudicators judge from the floor (ballroom style).

This year we will once again be utilising a fully computerised adjudicating system specially formulated for theatrical dance. You will see the adjudicators judging with handheld palm pad electronic devices. This fantastic cutting edge technology completely eliminates the 'human error' aspect of judging.

All 6 place getters in Solo, Duo & Trio events receive a medallion for their efforts. Troupes winning 1st place receive $40, 2nd or 3rd place receive a trophy. All members of troupes aged 12/u down will take home a ribbon.

Cash Prizes in 2024 - "Best Troupe Costume" Award - $500, Most Promising Baby - $50, Talented Junior - $100 and Senior Solo Challenge $350.

No entry fee is charged for the events, all competitors simply purchase an admission ticket. This one off fee includes entry to solos, duo/trios & troupes. A digital program is sent to all studios and included in this cost.

Admission is free for the Principal & teachers of the studio. Principals DO NOT pay for troupe entries.
